UFC 119: Mir vs Cro Cop

So as D-Day approaches for Frank Mir and Mirko Cro Cop i figured i would lend you all my personal opinion on the main event of this card.

On Frank Mir:

So the first fighter we have to examine is Frank Mir. My personal opinions on Mir as a fighter is that he is OK. He is not great but he is by no means a can. Mir can easily hold his own with the best in the division but he will most likely never be the champ again. As a person, i literally cannot stand Frank Mir. Everything from his voice, his douchey haircut and that smug look he always seems to have just rubs me the wrong way. I feel like Frank Mir thinks he is the baddest man on the planet and that he is made out of diamonds.  Now this is not a bad mentality for a Great Fighter to have but when you are a gatekeeper in your division i think that you need to be a bit more level headed.
As for the skills that Mir brings to the table. Frank Mir holds a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under Ricardo Pieres and holds a black belt in Kenpo Karate. His submission skills are second to none in the Heavyweight division and anyone that is willing to go to the ground with Mir is in for a long night that may not end up well for them (minus Brock Lesnar of course). As for his standup i feel that it is somewhat overrated. I feel that people see what he did to Big Nog and to Kongo and think that suddenly that he is some huge KO artist and can bang with the best in the world when in reality he has mediocre boxing. He has little to no head movement and walks straight in like a zombie. That said anyone in the heavyweight division can get caught by one of his hands and go down.

Verdict on Mir: A giant DOUCHE who has slick submission skills and can hold his own against the top heavyweights, but is not a great.

On Mirko Cro Cop:

Next up we have the legendary Mirko Cro Cop. The feared Croatian kick boxer with the fabled left high kick that can put people in hospitals. Mirko is a legend in the sport of MMA and is easily one of the best if not the best striker in the Heavyweight division. Mirko has faced all the bests in the world and fought in PRIDE in its prime. He has a very stoic demeanor to him but is a very kind person at heart and loves to play jokes on fellow fighters. Now that we are past the nuthugging intro to him i will get to what he brings to the table.
Mirko Cro Cop is a deadly kickboxer who can catch you with a kick or with a punch that will make you go to sleep faster that a fat man with Narcolepsy. His fabled line of "Right kick hospital, left leg cemetery" used to be something that every man feared. But lately Mirko has been hesitant to throw his deadly kicks. Mirko has been out wrestled and out struck due to his lack of imposing kicks on his opponents. He has shown some ground skills coming off a victory over Pat Barry via rear naked choke. As of late i feel that Mirko's best days are behind him and that he is holding on to a hope that he will get a title run going. I do not think that Mirko could hang with the best in the division but i do feel he has a solid chance against Frank Mir and i hope he makes Mir quit fighting.

Verdict on Cro Cop: Great standup technique and GREAT kicks, but his best days may be behind him.

I personally hope that Cro Cop left high kicks Mir into a coma, but thats wishful thinking.

Anyways, farewell my people. Until next time.
